SPOKEN WORD POET, GUEST PANELIST & FREELANCE WRITER

Hablo Rodriguez-Williams is an unapologetic, Brown, genderqueer artist, poet, freelance writer, author, scholar, disability rights organizer, native, herbal healer and social critic. As a shape shifting, self proclaimed, "Sadboi", Hablo's werk centers a decolonial lens around Queer and Trans POWER and disability. Hablo's work emphasizes everything  unapologetically feminine and the ever queering of the word "femme". Hablo's spoken word shines light on the often overlooked, "gritty", parts of queerness, decolonialism and disability. Through their own multiplicities and intersectionalities of their existence; as a first generation Colombian and Indigenous disabled person, Hablo's capacity for story telling allows for them to be instrumental to a cultural movement and narrative of resistance.

Able to combine prose and social justice issues, Hablo's work looks at the nuances of low income, or no income survival tactics for Queer and Trans People of Color, creating space for the socially taboo, through their unapologetic writing and spoken word. Based upon their capacity to articulate struggles ranging from disability, to affordable housing, Trans and Gender non confirming resilience and struggle, to native and Indigenous survival and land reclamation, Hablo is often asked to offer social critiques and unique perspectives on current issues through spoken word, slam poetry or participate in dialogues as a guest panelist.

BAY AREA: DISABILITY INTERSECTIONALITY SUMMIT

October 13th, 2018

DIS redirects the currents of power and conversation to marginalized disabled people living in our communities, particularly Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous and People of Color with disabilities.  The need to organize DIS was in response to police brutality on disabled black bodies whose identities as multiply-marginalized people were largely absent in many social justice circles. This frame extended to include other disabled people of color, and marginalized disabled people whose lived-experiences continue to face oppression. Hablo Rodriguez-Williams was commissioned to participate and recite spoken word about disability and their lived intersections and vend their zine: "Angry Sadboi Thots".

For many queer and trans People of Color, reclaiming and practicing once forgotten methods of healing, allows QTPOC to exist within a world that wants to erase our existence. It is through reclaiming our forgotten identities, that queer and trans People of Color are directly confronting the compartmentalization of our lives, cultures, bodies, and histories. By reclaiming ancestral healing practices, queer and trans People of Color are not only resisting colonialism and oppression but refusing to be erased
